Over this semester we learned about resilience and the many different forms that it could take. We focused mainly on four different types of resilience: personal, societal, local, ecological. One of the most interesting types of resilience to me was ecological resilience. Ecological resilience is an ecosystem ability to recover after a shock to the system. We also explored what resilience means to individuals or communities. I found it interesting to compare both the difference and commonalities between these different types of resilience.
One takeaway that I have from this project is from when we learned about Auschwitz and the atrocities committed there. I remember at one point it talked about how the simplest of things were something that could give so much joy to one person, like getting slightly more potatoes in their meager amounts of food. This just went to show me how relative happiness is and how everything can be put into perspective. In this book, man's search for meaning, it also showed the readers how others reacted under the pain of being in an internment camp. Others reacted differently, giving up on hope, and these people found no meaning in their lives anymore. It was things like this found in the book that I loved to think about as it brought up many valid statements about human nature.

In this project I wrote an essay describing fires and the impact that they can have on the local environment. The essay described both the good and the bad of fires on the environment. In the end I started talking about and describing ecological resilience and relating what is previously mentioned to it. I then tried to relate to local events that the readers would have experienced. One of my goals for this project was to present the evidence and then try to entice the readers to come to their own conclusions as to whether the disruption that fires provide are good or bad.
Unfortunately I don’t think that I had much personal growth in many areas of this project except perhaps on researching sources. I think that this all leads back to me at the beginning of the project thinking that I knew what I was going to do for this project when in reality I did not. This led to many problems after the other and not giving myself enough time to complete what I was actually doing. However, on the project as a whole I think that I learned a lot and am now more capable of deeper philosophical thought. I would attribute this to the book, The Man’s Search for Meaning, which let me learn about how we as humans think and presented many questions for me to think about while reading.
