La Receta con Mandatos
The primary reason for this project is to learn how to say commands in Spanish. This means stuff like "You, walk" or "arrange the flowers. To show case this skill we created a recipe that we chose from a Spanish speaking country. This allowed us to fully utilize our new skills. Students will learn about the food of their choice and have the option to cook this dish. We then will take images of our food and add them to the recipes to make them aesthetically pleasing. This project also further cultured us in the countries of our choice and gave us a further insight into their culture, or at the very least the food side of it. For my project I chose Peru. This is because I am going there this summer and it would be a good opportunity to learn more of the local cuisine and what to look for when I am there. I am overall very glad that I did this. I learned more about the food there and am looking forward to trying it myself
Overall I think that I did decently well in this project. I actually learned things that are highly applicable to me personally, which is something that I often times struggle with in Spanish. I still could have actually created the dish and that is one way that I defenitely could have improved this project.
El Proyecto de Mi Immigrante
In this project we did a small biography of one of out ancestors that was an immigrant. We then took that writing and created a small poster that was both visually pleasing and conveyed the information.
To start of this project we first contacted relatives so that we can get information on our immigrant ancestors. Theses ancestors had to have moved from a different country into the US. We had to learn about their life in the US and what they did here. The next part of the project was learning about all of the vocabulary we will need through out this project. We also learned about the past tense in Spanish. To do this we learned all about conjugation of verbs. When we conjugate in the past tense there are two types of conjugations used. those that describe specific times and those that describe times that repeat or that is an unidentified time. Using all of this information we then created biography about our ancestor. We wrote about their lives in Spanish and printed it out. We then took these words, accompanied by varies relevant photos to create a piece of art that describes the lives of our ancestors.
Día De Los Muertos
Día de los Muertos is a celebration that takes place in Mexico. It is a celebration that originated from both Aztec and Spanish culture. It is believed that during this time, November 1st to November 2nd, the spirits return and the living celebrate their memory. Often times altars are made with pictures of their dead loved ones and items that were dear to them. Special food is made like pan de Muertos and sugar skulls. It is an ongoing tradition that is deeply important to the people of Mexico. To celebrate this here at Animas, we created several projects that both enhanced our Spanish skills and increased our knowledge of this holiday.
